CW507L
CW507L is a high zinc content yellow brass alloy, also known by designations C27000 and CuZn36, widely used for cold forming and engineering purposes.
Chemical Composition
Copper (Cu): 63.5% - 65.5%
Zinc (Zn): Balance (about 34.5% - 36.5%)
Lead (Pb): Up to 0.05%
Iron (Fe): Up to 0.05%
Nickel (Ni): Up to 0.30%
Tin (Sn): Up to 0.10%
Aluminium (Al): Up to 0.02%
Other impurities: Typically under 0.10%
Mechanical Properties
Tensile Strength: 350 - 440 MPa (varies by temper)
Proof Stress: Minimum 170 MPa
Elongation: Minimum 28%
Hardness (HRB): Typically 30 - 90 depending on form and temper
Physical Properties
Density: 8.47 g/cm³
Melting Range: 1660°F (solidus) to 1710°F (liquidus)
Thermal Conductivity: 67 BTU/sq ft/ft/hr/°F (approx. 116 W/m·K)
Electrical Conductivity: 27% IACS
Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: 11.3 x 10⁻⁶ /°F
Fabrication and Machinability
Excellent cold working capacity (drawing, forming, bending, shearing)
Poor hot forming ability
Good corrosion resistance
Excellent soldering and brazing capability
Fair oxyacetylene and gas shielded arc welding; not suitable for coated metal arc welding
Machinability rating: Around 30%
Good mechanical strength and ductility
