CW508L, also known as CZ108 or CuZn37, is a popular high-purity cold-forming yellow brass alloy with approximately 62-64% copper and 37% zinc content.

Copper (Cu): 62.0% – 64.0%
Zinc (Zn): Balance
Lead (Pb): Up to 0.10%
Iron (Fe): Up to 0.10%
Nickel (Ni): Up to 0.30%
Tin (Sn): Up to 0.10%
Aluminium (Al): Up to 0.05%
Other impurities: Up to 0.20%
Mechanical Properties (temper H070, sheet/plate)
Proof Stress: 110 – 500 MPa (varies by temper and thickness)
Tensile Strength: 300 – 550 MPa
Elongation: Around 3 – 38% (depending on temper)
Hardness (Vickers): 55 – 180 HV
Physical Properties
Density: 8.44 g/cm³
Melting Point: ~916 °C (Liquidus)
Thermal Conductivity: 116 W/m·K
Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: 20.5 x 10⁻⁶ /K
Electrical Conductivity: ~27.6% IACS
Fabrication and Machinability
Excellent cold working and drawing capabilities, suitable for tubes and sheets
Fair capacity for hot working
Excellent soldering and brazing
Good oxyacetylene welding and spot welding; fair gas shielded arc welding
Poor seam welding; not recommended for coated metal arc and seam welds
Machinability rating: Around 35%
Good corrosion resistance, but not suitable for acetic acid, moist ammonia, hydrochloric acid, or nitric acid environments
