CW607N

CW607N is a leaded brass alloy commonly known as Free-Cutting Muntz Metal. It is distinguished by its excellent machinability, moderate strength, and good corrosion resistance. CW607N is widely used for machining applications where a balance of strength and ease of manufacturing is required.

Chemical Composition

• Copper (Cu): 59.0 – 62.0%

• Zinc (Zn): 36.0 – 40.2%

• Lead (Pb): 0.8 – 1.5%

• Iron (Fe): Up to 0.15%

• Others (minor elements): Up to 0.4%

Mechanical Properties

• Tensile Strength: Approximately 395 - 415 MPa

• Yield Strength: Around 160 MPa

• Elongation: About 40%

• Hardness (Rockwell B): Approximately 45

Physical Properties

• Density: 8.41 g/cm³

• Melting Range: Solidus ~1630°F (887°C), Liquidus ~1650°F (899°C)

• Electrical Conductivity: 27% IACS

• Thermal Conductivity: 69 BTU/(ft²·hr·°F)

• Thermal Expansion Coefficient: 11.6 × 10⁻⁶ /°F

Fabrication and Applications

• Excellent hot forming and forging characteristics

• Good machinability due to lead content

• Widely used for screws, nuts, gears, and fittings requiring good machining properties

• Not recommended for welding by oxyacetylene or arc methods
