C46400

C46400, also known as Naval Brass, is a 60/40 copper-zinc alloy with approximately 0.5 to 1% tin added to increase corrosion resistance, especially against dezincification and seawater exposure. It is an alpha-beta duplex brass alloy combining strength and moderate ductility, widely used in marine and industrial applications.

• Copper (Cu): 59.00 – 62.00%

• Zinc (Zn): Balance (~37-40%)

• Tin (Sn): 0.50 – 1.00%

• Lead (Pb): Up to 0.20%

• Iron (Fe): Up to 0.10%

• Total Others: Up to 0.50%

Mechanical Properties (Typical, ASTM B21, Temper HO2)

• Tensile Strength (UTS): Approx. 415 MPa (60 ksi) for small diameters, decreasing with larger sizes

• Proof Stress: ~185 MPa (27 ksi) minimum

• Elongation: 22-25%

• Hardness: 55-80 HRB

• Melting Point: Liquidus ~1650°F (900°C), Solidus ~1630°F (885°C)

Fabrication and Applications

• Excellent hot workability and fair cold workability

• Excellent soldering and brazing properties

• Good resistance to wear, fatigue, galling, and stress corrosion cracking

• Common uses include marine hardware, fasteners, valve stems, pump shafts, propeller shafts, and structural components exposed to saltwater environments
